Phillip Island Bicycle Users Group
The Phillip
Island ‘Bicycle User Group’
(BUG) aims to look after the needs and welfare of local
and visiting cyclists. The BUG is a non-competitive group affiliated with
and supported by Bicycle
Victoria. http://www.bv.com.au
Community activities organized by the BUG include
organized group rides, on and off the Island, cycle
maintenance clinics, roadworthy checks, low cost repairs and lots of
social bike related activities designed for all levels of riding skills as
well as all age groups.
The BUG is constantly looking for new members (cyclists or
otherwise) who would like to become involved in helping to grow the BUG or
who might just like to ride around our beautiful Island with like minded

develop Phillip Island as a "Bicycle Friendly" zone
by
working
toward improved cycling facilities on the Island
and
coordinating and conducting rides for all levels of
cycling

promoting &
encouraging cycling as a sport, exercise & social

(above) members can also enjoy a variety of rides on and off the Island
which are designed for all levels of riding ability and age groups
Every weekday a group leaves from Ride On Bikes on the
Esplanade at 5pm. All riders are welcome to join in. The riders average around
27-30km per hour so you will need to either be able to keep up or not be
bothered if you drop off the tail end. The rides are between 40 and 60
kilometres.

30km
Cross
onto the bike path from the car park and turn left. Make your way to
Coughlin Rd and turn right. Turn right at the Cowes Rhyll roundabout and
head for the Rhyll Newhaven Rd. Turn Right and ride to the Tourist Rd. Along
the bike track Woolamai Beach rd. Circuit Woolamai via Lantana, the
Boulevard, Beresford, Princeton, the Cranny, Broadbeach, the Esplanade,
Bridge View, Pinedale
After
a break at Chocolate Factory head back along the bike path to Amaze.

Cross the highway onto
the bike path and turn left toward Cowes

Harbison Rd turn right and ride along to the reserve entrance.

the signs indicating a bike path through the reserve to Rhyll/Cowes Rd
Head
once more toward Cowes to Coghlan Rd roundabout, right to Settlement rd,
right to do circuit of Silverleaves,left Coghlan Rd , right Rhyll Rd, left
along bike path on Tourist Rd to the Maze for coffee.

down to Beach St, down the hill into town Stop
for coffee break and then/or keep on going to Walton St and on to the
General Store
Cross
Lock Rd and ride back to Reid Street turn left and head back to
Cowes/Newhaven intersection.
Hill climbers can turn left at Lock Rd to the same intersection.
From
here, take the Cowes/ Rhyll Rd to Coghlan Rd and turn left.Follow
Coghlan Rd back to the Tourist Rd, turn left and go back to Amaze-N-Things

towards Tarwin Lower. Left into Koonwarra- Pound Rd (slight climb for about
5 kms). Turn right onto Koonwarra – Inverlock Rd, stop Koonwarra post office
café (only stop on ride). On leaving café turn right back up hill for short
distance, right into Whitelaws track, left onto Bass hwy towards Inverlock
(single file only). Turn right onto Outrim Rd , turn left towards Inverlock,
right onto Bass hwy, straight over roundabout turn right into Curtiss St to
finish. |

left again at Smith’s Beach Rd and ride the bike path to Back Beach Rd Cross

right at Sunderland Bay Rd, ride down to the Esplanade and turn left Follow
the Esplanade until it reaches the Tourist Road
Get
back onto the bike path and follow it past the Information Centre to Boys
Home Rd. Cross
the Tourist Rd ride down Boys Home Rd. to the sweeping turn at Forrest Ave.
Continue along to Cleeland St, turn right, pass the school and turn left
once again at Boys Home Rd back to the roundabout. Turn
right around the roundabout and head for the Chocolate Factory (Panny’s)
Back along the Tourist Rd or bike path to Amaze-N-Things
